Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness^(A)

4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted^[a](B) by the devil.^(C)

² After fasting forty days and forty nights,^(A) he was hungry.

¹² At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness,

¹³ and he was in the wilderness forty days,^(A) being tempted^[a] by Satan.^(B) He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness^(A)

4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit,^(B) left the Jordan^(C) and was led by the Spirit^(D) into the wilderness,

² where for forty days^(A) he was tempted^[a] by the devil.^(B) He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
